Do you have a backflow device that needs testing?

The local council requires that all backflow devices be tested on an annual basis. This is an important part of ensuring that all backflow devices are in good working order and are doing what they are designed to do – prevent backflow.

Backflow devices can be found on irrigation systems, fire hose reels and hydrants, commercial and industrial machinery that is connected to mains water, on rainwater tanks that are underground or water outlets in proximity to pollutants such as grease traps or chemicals.

Backflow devices are important in all of the above situations to ensure that our drinking water supply is not contaminated and remains safe to drink. This is why the annual testing is so important and must be carried out by a licenced backflow tester.

Council will send the registered owner of a backflow device and renewal letter each year. If you re the owner of one of these devices it is your responsibility to ensure the device is tested and a backflow certificate (form 9) is submitted to council for their records. Council can charge fee’s to you if this process is not followed and your device goes untested. Floworks make this process simple for you by booking in a suitable date to complete the test of your device and forwarding the owner and council a copy of the completed form 9.

What happens if your device fails the backflow test? If we test your backflow device and it fails we will contact you to discuss what is required to repair or replace your device. That way you can make an informed choice about how to proceed. If a device is replaced all paperwork required by council to remove the existing registered device and register the new device will be completed by Floworks and forwarded to council on your behalf. Again, we try to make the process as simple as possible for the owner – hopefully saving them time, money and stress.

If you have a backflow device that needs testing feel free to call our office (07) 3829 0274 and we will make this annual requirement as pain free as possible.
