Bathroom Renovations

For some people renovations can be a nightmare, for other it’s a passion – for me it’s a bit of both. Choosing new fixtures, colours and modernising our outdated blue bathroom was fun and rewarding. Don’t get me wrong it was hard work, but the finished product really was worth the hard work.

Through this experience I have found a few great tips that can help any DIY enthusiast with the renovating process. My only warning is: Please always use a LICENSED PLUMBER for all plumbing jobs.

Here are some tips for planning your bathroom renovation:

Choosing Furniture

Take your time to look around and measure the space you have available for your vanity or any other
furniture items you wish to replace. There are some great space-saving vanities out there for small ensuite / powder rooms. Wall mounted vanities are stylish, but make sure you mount it properly or have a professional do it.

Floating Shelves

This gives you storage while not stealing precious floor space or taking up too much room. Keeping the shelves stocked with only a few items helps to avoid the cluttered appearance.

Talk with an Expert

Before you purchase a new toilet or vanity talk to a plumber to make sure it will work with the existing plumbing. For example a back to wall toilet needs to have the correct inlet type to work.

Keeps things Light and Bright

Keeping wall colours light and making sure there is ample lighting will help create the feeling of space.

Shower Head and Tapware

Pick a theme / style for you bathroom and keep your tapware in line with that theme. There are so many different tapware styles around but mixing and matching can make your renovated bathroom look confused i.e. don’t have an elegant antique style basin tap with a modern square style bath spout.

Look at cheaper options

Look at cheaper options, such as keeping the existing vanity and just replacing the doors or bench top.

Another great tool available is the REECE Bathroom Planner. It is a 3d planning tool that allows you to pick the shape of your bathroom, choose floor coverings, wall colours and more importantly bath, shower, basin, vanity and any other bathroom fixture you may be thinking of. It’s very simple to use and really allows you to get a feel for what your finished bathroom will look like. Bunnings have a similar tool for planning your kitchen renovation.

Renovating your bathroom can add so much value to your home and doesn’t have to be a huge or expensive task.

Happy renovating,
Sarah
